Caldwell Ragan

President, Ragan Mills

Caldwell Ragan was one of the most prominent leaders in the textile industry in North Carolina, he led
the charge for Gaston County to be known as the textile center of the world. One notable
accomplishment was his work in WWII with the War Production Board. In addition, Ragan
represented the American Textile Manufacturers and Cotton Spinners all across Europe. He
was the 19th president of the Southern Combed Yarn Spinners and a director for various other
textile boards and organizations. He sold his company to J. P. Stevens in 1947 and remained as
President and General Manager of that subsidiary until 1951.
