Claude Dawson was Vice President of Cramerton Mills and active in promoting both textiles and Gaston
County’s emergence into this fi eld. As a director of the Southern Combed Yarn Spinners, NC
Textile Manufacturer, he became the leader of the newly merged trade group. Dawson made
frequent trips to Europe searching out better ways for local textile firms to compete in the
world market. He was also active in local organizations such as the Schiele Museum, Gaston
College, Boy Scouts, and a trustee for Gaston Memorial Hospital.
