W. Hugh Wray was from Shelby, NC and established the Oldsmobile Dealership in Gastonia. He was born in
1884 and was a relative of the A. V. Wray and Six Sons of Shelby. They were featured in Ripley’s
“Believe it or Not” on numerous occasions. He was President of the North Carolina Automobile
Dealers Association from 1944-46 and served on the executive committee of Mars Hill College.
Wray was a charter member of the Gastonia Rotary Club, and for years, served in leadership
roles in First Baptist Church.
